How to Install Multi layer Pipes?

Multi layer Pipes Installation Tips

Multi layer pipes are plastic pipes, with an intermediate layer of aluminium, malleable and resistant. They offer high resistance and do not corrode, so their most common uses are to move water intakes from one place to another (such as, for example, if you replace a bathtub with a shower tray) and to install heating systems. In addition, you must have some knowledge of masonry because, during the work, you will have to chip the wall and, later, cover it.

Plumbing and heating installations with multi layer pipes are an efficient alternative to traditional copper pipes. Of the installation options, compression-joined tube connections are most suitable for the hobbyist. Splices can be made without the need for any gluing or welding.

Types of polyethylene for plumbing installations:

Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX). This material began to be used in construction in the 1960s. It is a plastic material derived from polyethylene (PE). In the manufacture of PEX, PE, a thermoplastic, becomes thermos set, which makes it very resistant to pressure and temperature, both high and low.

Polyethylene Pert al Pert. PERT, or temperature resistant, polyethylene is the basis for multi layer pipes (Pert-al-Pert), which adds new properties to those of cross-linked polyethylene. It is also known as non-cross linked polyethylene, since cross linking is not necessary in its manufacture. It has excellent hydro static properties.

Did you know? Multi layer pipes are made of an inner and outer layer of polyethylene  and another layer in between of welded aluminium. Between the aluminium and polyethylene are two other layers of co polymer adhesive. Here  Why You have home Insurance

Choose the pieces well:

Ball valve with key, control: Similar to welding valves for copper. They open and close the flow of hot and cold water in the bathroom or kitchen.

Choose the pieces well:

  • Lubricant: it is used to lubricate the O-rings of the unions. The joints are essential for sealing, so they cannot be damaged when entering the tube.
  • Flaring tool: this tool is used to flare, round and expand the mouth of the multi layer tube. Flaring tips flare various tube diameters.
  • External spring: allows the pipe to be bent as needed. The tube enters the spring and pressure is exerted with the arms to bend it.
  • Pipe Cutters: Multi layer pipe can be easily cut with plastic pipe cutters. But by having an aluminium layer, the mouth can be deformed, so it needs to be flared.

Did you know? You will find multi layer pipe with the usual internal diameter in home installations, 16, 20 and 25 mm, the most common sizes for running water and heating installations. There are multi layer tubes and rolls of different lengths, from 5 to 20m. Tips to find the water leakage

Advantages of multi layer pipe:

  • Enormous resistance to pressure and high temperatures
  • Frost resistant and has low thermal conductivity
  • Do not produce condensation, which avoids dripping and humidity problems.
  • Light in weight, flexible and does not corrode
  • It is not electrically conductive and produces less noise than copper pipes.
  • Does not retain lime or other deposits, which prevents incrustations

Of compression. The watertight union of the tubes is achieved with a nut and a metal retaining ring. By tightening the nut, the pressure exerted on the ring and the tube achieves a secure seal. The parts are tightened with the help of two wrenches
